German-Australian duo AMISTAT recently returned home from a sold-out European tour and are just about to set off on a local jaunt but, before they hit the road, they're sharing brand new single The Coward for your listening pleasure.
According to the band — individually, twins Jan and Josef Prasil — the tune "is about knowing who you are deep inside but not being able to let it out".
"People are very fast with making assumptions and judging you based on what you look like but little they know about what's inside of the person," they said in a statement.
For the uninitiated, AMISTAT formed after the boys relocated to Australia five years ago, when, struggling to find work, they took up musical arms and started busking to help make ends meet.
"We realised pretty quickly that we had a unique sound and people wanted to listen to us back home, and that is how AMISTAT was formed," they said.
Centred on Jan's guitar-playing and Josef's warm, powerful vocals, the stripped-back soundscapes typify the notion of doing more with less, The Coward sprinkling in some sparse yet effective piano and percussion to help round out the acoustic-driven atmosphere.

Accompanied by cellist Julian Swinnerton and pianist/percussionist Ryan Oliver, the twins will set off for a seven-date east-coast tour this December in support of the single, starting off in their adoptive hometown of Melbourne; from there, they'll head to Newcastle, Canberra, Sydney, Byron Bay and Brisbane before capping off with a year-ending outing at the annual Woodford Folk Festival.
The Coward will be released on Friday 10 November. See AMISTAT's Facebook page for more information.
