I was lucky enough to get down to the COLD HIKER EP launch at The Toff in Town last Thursday night. After listening to a fair bit of stuff from the Melbourne based alternative rock band, I thought it was time to take it to the next level and see them live.
COLD HIKER are making waves on the Melbourne music scene, known for their distinct ambient jazz meets urgent alternative rock sounds, influenced by the likes of The Mars Volta and Mr Eric Clapton to name a few.
Before the band’s set, local Melbourne based bands I’LLS and LOWLAKES put on impressive performances, two bands that are well worth checking out in the very near future if you haven’t already done so.

The boys from COLD HIKER should be pretty chuffed with themselves for managing to sell out the show, what I believe to be a little insight into what’s to come for these guys, I ain’t no fortune teller, but it’s pretty clear they’re onto something.
COLD HIKER did not disappoint the gang of eager beavers who came to support them, looking totally at ease on stage and playing it super cool. I was impressed with front man Miller Upchurch’s vocal control and the bands success is an obvious testament to their combined abilities in working together to maximize the individual talents.
And the Blondie ‘Heart of glass’ cover was pretty rad too.
If you haven’t got your hands on a copy of COLD HIKER’s self-titled debut EP, you’re in luck, because you can now do so HERE
