The percussion-led, long-winding funk tune is the perfect introduction to a band soon to be huge..

More First Beige More First Beige

First Beige are a band which hopefully, over the next few years, will no longer need an introduction. The six-strong Brisbane ensemble are front-runners within an exciting new-wave resurgence of 70s-inspired jazz-funk, channelling names including BADBADNOTGOOD - international heavyweights in this realm - as they layer soft grooves and intricate melodies with this untouchable swagger demonstrated through much of their work, which spans back to a collection of singles through 2016 and 2017. Today, the band are must-see's in a city saturated with exciting talent, playing King Gizz's infamous Gizzfest and Lime Cordiale's The Squeeze festival, while upcoming showcases at this year's BIGSOUND may prove to give them the industry push they require to nationally break-out, and if there's a song that's going to help them do this, it's Desire.

Premiering on Pilerats today, Desire is four-minutes of that signature First Beige charm, with intricate melodies all falling into place amongst each other to give a jigsaw of funk grooves, allowing complexity without feeling too overwhelming. Driven by a pulsing disco edge and those distinct bass grooves that you'd find amongst the work of Kaytranada, it's a swirling combination of vocals, keys and even flute; signalling a dance-centric side of the band which is to be further showcased on their upcoming second EP Mirrors, out October 4th. "I really wanted
to make a dance EP this time round," says the band's frontman David Versace. "I've been writing and playing music for a couple of years now and realized we get the biggest kick out of simple grooves and making people dance."

It comes with an official video clip filmed at Brisbane's Old Museum, which showcases their strengths in translating their work into the live realm as their work meets simplistic - yet incredibly effective - video directing by Jay Palmer. Dive into the track below, and catch them at BIGSOUND in Brisbane next week (!):
