New Music: Halcyon Drive - Cruel Kids EP
Cruel Kids' distills playful indie rock and pop hooks nicely.. Halcyon Drive has just released their debut EP, Cruel Kids, which appears as one of the more engaging guitar-based releases of Australian music this year. It's engagement lies in the fact that it unashamedly merges pop hooks with a mixture of garage rock and indie pop. Currently it is seen as uncool to embrace 'pop' but where the problem actually lies in artists that suddenly became popular because... Surprise, they make music that is accessible.  Crusoe marks this out from the start with it's reverb layered chorus and repeated guitar riffs that make it hard to ignore. Then there is the lead single Whitewash with a down-tempo edge at first that crashes into a series of short, sharp drums breakdowns. But what really makes it are Michael Oechsle's vocals that cut through the instrumentals to hold your attention. Indeed, whether it is the impassioned vocals of Thieves or the indie pop aspects of Blisters Oechsle's voice is wha

Premiere: The Upskirts - Where Video Clip
Sydney outfit The Upskirts drop a new video for their new EP's second single - Where.. After a huge 2014, Sydney psych-rockers The Upskirts are rounding out the year with a cracking new video clip for Where, the second single from their third EP - due early 2015. The video sees the group working with long-time collaborator James Brettell (Vesuvius, We Could Be A Team), this time around doocumenting visually gorgeous road trip interspliced with the group doing what they do best - rocking out. It bodes well moving into what promises to be a killer 2015, following being named as FBi Radio's Unsigned Artist Of The Week in May this year, copping shout outs from Phil "Grinspoon" Jameson, and supporting the likes of The Drums (this Sunday at The Metro Theatre) and The Delta Riggs. New Music: Thelma Plum - Young In Love (ShockOne Remix)
An unlikely pairing with not-suprisingly large results.. WA drum'n'bass lord ShockOne has thrown his hat into the post-Flume electronica ring on a remix you might not have expected, but one that definitely works. It's also a tune where you'll realise that Brisbane songstress Thelma Plum has the perfect voice for bangers. Plum has been traversing the country celebrating her new EP Monster - a tour that wraps up this weekend at the SoundLounge on the Gold Coast tonight, and The Zoo in Brisbane Saturday 29 November - check the video for Young In Love HERE. ShockOne meanwhile has been somewhat quiet on the production front, and while this remix is something of a departure for one of Australia's biggest bass music exports, it's no surprise that a dude with his production chops can play in different genre sandboxes and handle it with aplomb. He's appearing at next week's Electronic Music Conference, before headlining WA Boxing Day festival Breakfest. Follow ShockOne: FACEBOOK Follow Thelma
