Just shy of a month ago we premiered They Don’t Care (Yoruba Soul Extended Mix), the first single lifted from neo-soul group Izy’s dancefloor focused re-workings of their 2021 album Irene; Irene Remixes (Vol I). Today that hightail-anticipated collection of re-works, featuring edits by Elle Shimada, Zepherin Saint and Osunlade, is released via Hopestreet Recordings.
Three-tracks in duration, Irene Remixes (Vol I) takes Izy’s signature raw, soulful vocals along with their warm analog production, reconstituting them into pulsing deep house arrangements. Opening with a Elle Shimada remix of the originally downtempo ballad Moon, the songs essence and melody remains true, flourished in 90s-inspired synth lines, deep bass, and a infectiously percussive beat. The release then evolves into classic soulful, jazzy house territory with Zepherin Saint’s Frantic (Tribe Vocal Mix) heating up the dancefloor with a tempo change, and the introduction of some more live instrumentation. Closing out the release is Osunlade’s minimal yet masterful take on They Don’t Care (Yoruba Soul Extended Mix), a minimal house re-work that allows plenty of room for the track's vocals to soar.
With a second LP in the works and more reimagined works of their 2021 debut on the way, Izy sure have their work cut out for them as they enter 2023 - but for now be sure to revel in their latest offering Irene Remixes (Vol I) as it enters the world today.
