Have You Been To: The Gov

Answered by: Ryan Winter

Address: 59 Port Rd, Hindmarsh

What’s the capacity? 700

Why should punters visit you? We treat live music as more than just a job. Everyone here lives and breathes it. It’s a special atmosphere.

What’s the best thing about the venue? The variety of artists who play here. We’ve had everyone, from Jimmy Eat World to Illy, Sia, John Butler, Hilltop Hoods and Parkway Drive. The Gov feels intimate for a lot of these artists.

What’s the history of the venue? The original pub dates back to the 1800s and is named after the first ever Governor of South Australia. It was made into a live music venue in 1993 when the Tonkin family too over and has steadily grown since.

What is your venue doing to help the local music scene? We have live music here every night of the week from local acts. Many continue onto support our touring bands.

What are some of the highlights? Just having been part of so many iconic artists’ careers, whether they’ve played here once or keep coming back.
