The acclaimed trio have unveiled yet another stunning collection of tracks, set for release this Friday.
Canadian trio The East Pointers are following up their award-winning debut album, Secret Victory, with sophomore effort What We Leave Behind, set for release this Friday, 29 September.
Comprised of fiddler/singer Tim Chaisson, banjoist Koady Chaisson and guitarist Jake Charron, the band serve up a spectacular mix of traditional and contemporary music, instrumental prowess and lyrical thoughtfulness.
The band's well-honed affinity for Celtic sounds shine through in opener Tanglewood, immediately demonstrating the band's mastery at engaging their listeners without uttering a word, Tim's vocals — which make their first appearance in second track and first single 82 Fires — simply adding another mellifluous, skillfully utilised instrument to the mix.
The diversity of ideas wielded by the band across the album's 11 tracks reflects their worldly experiences, with Koady reflecting in a statement: "We’ve met such a variety of people through our shows, from the women who knitted us hats during our shows in the far north of Scotland through to groups of young surfy guys singing along to the instrumental parts in Cold, in Australia.

"I think it’s because it’s music with a really wide entry point — there’s a lot going on but it invites you right in."
The band aren't afraid to veer towards the deeply personal on the album, either, with the sombre Two Weeks in particular reflecting their own experience — and that of many other families in their home province of Prince Edward Island (and around the world) — to the point that Koady's mother even remarked the song would "hit home for a lot of people".
“On the island many families are forced to split their time, with at least one member having to go out west — usually to Alberta — to make ends meet," he explained. "It’s so hard. I did it, though luckily not for long, but there are people in my community going through it month after month, year after year."
The wider album is a similarly beautifully crafted piece of work, filled with instrumental intrigue and narrative complexity, and was produced by Gordie Sampson (who co-wrote Two Weeks with the band during a recording session in Nashville earlier this year).
It comes just ahead of the band's extensive Australian tour, which starts off with a pair of festival outings — at Mullum and Queenscliff music festivals — this November.
Following those spots, they set off for shows in Oakleigh, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Castlemaine, Katoomba, Adelaide, Darwin, Albany and Fremantle before heading back east for the Woodford Folk Festival over New Year's.
In early 2018, they round out their tour with shows in the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle.
