Five minutes with Monica Zanetti.
Name and Role: Monica Zanetti – Writer, Director and Actor. So if it sucks, you know where to look.
Plug your show! Why can't we miss it? Is it too arrogant to say it's The Office meets Bridesmaids meets 500 days Of Summer? Because it is. It's that good. Plus not only do we have a talented cast, we also have the amazing singer, Ketty Ellen providing the music. Also if you come and don't like it, you can find me afterwards and kick me in the shin. I'm not giving you your money back though. That's mine now.
Where did the idea for your show come from? Well, it's set in a dating agency and features a sex addict, a 25-year-old virgin, a scorned lesbian, an over-confident teenager, an ex-con and a guy with body dysmorphia… I want to tell you it's not based on my life. I really do.
What have the past few months or so been like in the lead-up to Fringe? Unfortunately I'm a stress eater, so I've made my way through 50 boxes of Oreos in the last week (They were on sale for $1 at Bi-Lo). However I'm also a stress dancer, so when I've not been eating, I've been dancing in my lounge room to that jungle song from Ice Age. It's really awkward for my roommate.
What inspires you artistically? Conversations Over Coffee & Date loaf with the greatest artist I know, my dad.
What the most cringe-worthy thing you've seen on stage? B- Street at Belvoir made me cringe in all the right ways. Brilliant.
What other shows are you looking forward to at this year's Fringe?
The Day The Galaxy Inevitably Exploded & Died. Best name ever.
What excites you about being involved in the Sydney Fringe 2012?
Being able to give my friends a job. I went through Drama School with most of my cast and it's a pretty amazing feeling to be able to give them a chance to work. I think they'll be less excited when they get their payment though…
WHEN & WHERE: Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 September, King Street Theatre
