New Music - Collarbones, ‘Only Water’
Heartbreakers v Beatmakers: Collarbones team up with Oscar Key Sung on a new track.. Sydney’s Marcus Whale and Adelaide’s Travis Cook are the wonderful Collarbones, a producer duo who’ve been making genre-defying, forward-thinking music together for nearly eight years now. I never heard their first album but their second album, 2011's Die Young, featuring HTML Flowers and Guerre, is a firm favourite of mine - a gem of a broken R & B / experimental club / house thing, thematically built around heartbreak and teen nostalgia, and structurally built on glitchy, post dubstep beats. It sits somewhere between James Blake, Burial and The Weekend, at times moving torwards the more big-room weirdo-house of Teengirl Fantasy, and full of the kind of jams that are nice to listen to when you come home at 3am. Seeing Collarbones perform live at Outside In Festival in Sydney a couple of years back, and then again last year at The Bird in Perth, have both been totally memorable experiences - the boys b

Red Bull Music Academy x Boiler Room Chronicles - Australia
Boiler Room delves deeper into the Australian club scene with a new web series.. Well, this is cool. Red Bull Music Academy has teamed up with Boiler Room (who broadcast net streams of live DJ sets from clubs around the world) to create a special web series that hones in on Australian producer and DJ talent, to be launched with Boiler Room’s biggest Australian show to date. Entitled Chronicles, each episode will focus on an artist or group, and will see them not only perform a special live set for Boiler Room, but also curate a line up of artists past and present who have inspired them as an artist. Soulful R & B quartet Hiatus Kaiyote, who performed for Boiler Room when they came to Australia in 2013 (you can watch that show HERE), are the first cab off the rank to play Chronicles, which kicks off in Melbourne on Nov 21. They’ve chosen their mentor, Brooklyn-based producer, composer, beatboxer and pianist Taylor McFerrin, to play their show. McFerrin first noticed Hiatus Kaiyote on hi

Tinashe: Australian Tour
The rising R & B beauty is set to get 2On in Australia next year. After debuting an incredible cover story with American musician Tinashe last month, ACCLAIM Magazine are bringing breakthrough singer down under for the very first time for a string of dates in February. She’s been working the independent scene for years, making dark and intriguing experimental mixtapes (2013’s Black Water is WELL worth your while), and with her recently released debut studio release Aquarius, which features Devonté Hynes and A$AP Rocky, she’s brought that R & B progressiveness into the mainstream spotlight (along with acts like Jhene Aiko, Banks and Kelela). Tinashe worked with a wide range of collaborators on the accomplished release, including T-Minus, Boi-1da, Clams Casino, Fisticuffs, Best Kept Secret, Ritz Reynolds, Dev Hynes, Detail, and Mike WiLL Made It, maintaining an admirable cohesiveness across Aquarius despite all this varied input. Her profile has been getting a big leg-up of late courtesy

Etsy Pop-Up Markets
Etsy’s moving into the real world, rolling out a series of pop-up markets across the country.. From little things, big things grow. Just ask Sophia Amoruso, founder of global girls’ clohing business NastyGal and author of #GIRLBOSS – she created a small vintage women's clothing business on eBay that’s now worth $250 million dollars. Etsy is like Ebay, but specifically for handmade goods and artisan products – and it’s one sweet four-letter word if you’re a small business owner with a product to sell. With over one million active shops and 40 million members, business owners on Etsy generated over $895 million in sales last year. Etsy’s moving into the real world, rolling out a series of pop up markets across the country that will be selling a broad range of stuff: jewellery, art, fashion, vintage and homewares. The Etsy shop-owners will be turning off their computers and coming out into the sunshine to sell their creations the ol’ fashioned way. They’ll also happily let you pick their

Interview - Royal Blood
The buzz may be well-deserved but Royal Blood aren't to sure how to deal with it.. Royal Blood's rise to the top is already becoming mythologised after Arctic Monkeys drummer Matthew Helder wore their shirt when he played at Glastonbury 2013. Furthermore, they were later asked back by the Monkeys to play their two-sold out Finsbury Park gigs. Finsbury Park holds around 40,000 people. That's 80,000 people. Furthermore, they already have over 60,000 fans on Facebook, and only one EP. When Liam Apter spoke with Mike Kerr (lead singer/bassist) and Ben Thatcher (drummer) they took a fairly aloof stance towards questions about their management, debut album, the recording process and coming from Brighton with dead-pan humour. Indeed, it provided a refreshing break that the band could readily joke about whether Batman was alive or not. But it also raised questions about how comfortable Royal Blood are with their newfound stardom, either that or it's really not too high on their agenda at the m
