Heartbreakers v Beatmakers: Collarbones team up with Oscar Key Sung on a new track.. Sydney’s Marcus Whale and Adelaide’s Travis Cook are the wonderful Collarbones, a producer duo who’ve been making genre-defying, forward-thinking music together for nearly eight years now. I never heard their first album but their second album, 2011's Die Young, featuring HTML Flowers and Guerre, is a firm favourite of mine - a gem of a broken R & B / experimental club / house thing, thematically built around heartbreak and teen nostalgia, and structurally built on glitchy, post dubstep beats. It sits somewhere between James Blake, Burial and The Weekend, at times moving torwards the more big-room weirdo-house of Teengirl Fantasy, and full of the kind of jams that are nice to listen to when you come home at 3am. Grace is heading out on tour to showcase her latest single, Pluto and you should be there.. Despite Perth being the most isolated city in the world, the place pumps out artists that challenge the rest of Australia's talent. Just look at Grace, who recently supported Alt-J when they toured 'Australia' (read Sydney & Melbourne) and has released a pulsating, sparse electronic single titled, Pluto (which you can listen to HERE). To celebrate she is heading out on her first national tour, showcasing not only Pluto but other tracks that were produced by the likes of David Sitek from TV On The Radio and Sam Spiegel of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The rising R & B beauty is set to get 2On in Australia next year. After debuting an incredible cover story with American musician Tinashe last month, ACCLAIM Magazine are bringing breakthrough singer down under for the very first time for a string of dates in February. She’s been working the independent scene for years, making dark and intriguing experimental mixtapes (2013’s Black Water is WELL worth your while), and with her recently released debut studio release Aquarius, which features Devonté Hynes and A$AP Rocky, she’s brought that R & B progressiveness into the mainstream spotlight (along with acts like Jhene Aiko, Banks and Kelela). The buzz may be well-deserved but Royal Blood aren't to sure how to deal with it.. Royal Blood's rise to the top is already becoming mythologised after Arctic Monkeys drummer Matthew Helder wore their shirt when he played at Glastonbury 2013. Furthermore, they were later asked back by the Monkeys to play their two-sold out Finsbury Park gigs. Finsbury Park holds around 40,000 people. That's 80,000 people. Furthermore, they already have over 60,000 fans on Facebook, and only one EP. When Liam Apter spoke with Mike Kerr (lead singer/bassist) and Ben Thatcher (drummer) they took a fairly aloof stance towards questions about their management, debut album, the recording process and coming from Brighton with dead-pan humour. Indeed, it provided a refreshing break that the band could readily joke about whether Batman was alive or not. But it also raised questions about how comfortable Royal Blood are with their newfound stardom, either that or it's really not too high on their agenda at the m
