Finishing on one of the new album’s highlights, Aeons, provided one of those spine-tingling Karnivool moments.

Asymmetry is challenging and complex yet intricate and delicate at times. It is not an easy listen but that is not what you would expect from a band of this depth. This album demands contemplation and deserves it.

They may snatch themselves some new fans through a few really solid rock tracks but there are still plenty of dimensions in there to maintain that distinctive, full and complex Jerrico sound.

"In inner Sydney I’d find something I’d like to see every couple of weeks. Maybe it’s not the flavour of the moment but there are plenty of bands fighting the good fight."

Perhaps their greatest achievement is the ability to take such an epic sound and make it so captivating and instantly likeable.

"The next album is going to be very ‘70s with a lot of folk and rock influences. We’ve listened to a lot of music from that era. There’s been a great psychedelic thread running through it all."

Even The Odd Ones Out is sure to set ME apart and further build on the international buzz which is already growing around these delightfully eccentric rock opera stars.

"I’m not competing with young people, I’m keeping it true. This music comes from my heart.”

The next challenge will be to see whether they can move forward rather than just continue ruminating on their former glories.

With new material not connecting immediately, Dead Letter Circus' set ended with the crowd taking over vocal duties for a tired Kim Benzie.
