By the time they encore with a Justin Bieber cover, it’s hard to imagine the Brisbane musician doing anything else.

The guys had the whole crowd going and by the time it came to a close there were a few members at the front of the pit looking particularly exhausted. Consider that a job well done.

It brings down an evening that unusually saw the band move in more abstract and textural directions, but at the very core of their sound the metal-inspired noise they make still produces a satisfying sensory overload.

After the addictive surf-rock we’d just experienced from Go Violets, a lady taking her clothes off just seems weird.

Horrorshow are well and truly back and, quite simply, this is great news.

Stuart Kora then returns solo to start a simple and familiar skank of the Burning intro, before they all individually come out slowly adding in their elements as everyone starts swaying and singing along to “another one we haven’t done in a long time”.

Overall, it’s a mixed performance: during the sadder songs and the more frenetic pieces, the delivery is good, but for much of the night, the musicianship of the band and the clarity of Ringwald’s voice can’t overcome the overly safe interpretations of the work.
