BABEHEAVEN are this alternative pop, warm and fuzzy kind of five piece from London, who seemed to have nailed the formula for all things fantastic with an ethereal type of mystery. Their debut track ‘Heaven’, and the accompanying video, actually has something haunting about it in both a beautiful and sad way.
For a debut release this track really stands to attention. It blurs nu-soul style vocals with atmospheric guitar and synth. The sounds have a haze over them rather than sharply piercing the airwaves. It’s a very gentle sound.
‘Heaven’ is a song about the different visions and feelings people have of what heaven is. Inspired by singer Nancy, who’s mother passed away when she was quite young. It explores the images people conjure as they find their own ways of coping with the reality of death and what comes next.
The video is like a series of home movies pieced together, the quality is grainy and often out of focus. There is nothing refined about it, but it makes the video deeply personal, as it revolves around the band's family and friends. Starring Nancy’s adorable younger sister, it’s an introduction to people’s worlds, in almost a way that is equally as personal as your unique and personalised your view of heaven might be.
