Live Review: The Bennies, Dan Cribb & The Isolated, Being Beta

"A stage invasion of over 20 punters during Highrider capped off one hell of an evening."

More The Bennies More The Bennies

“Fuckin’ legends!” Jules Rozenbergs, guitarist of The Bennies, says to the handful of punters waiting outside Amp’s before-doors. The Bennies have developed a reputation for being a bunch of down-to-earth blokes who simply enjoy partying and smoking weed, and their friendly nature was demonstrated as they happily signed some fresh band T-shirts for eager fans before the bands started.

Being Beta kicked things off. The baby-faced performers looked fresh off the block but they’ve got their craft pretty well mastered. Their melodic blend of skate-punk was thoroughly enjoyable thanks to the pitch-perfect vocal harmonies and catchy guitar hooks from the trio of guitarists at the front, while drummer David Parris was powering into the drum kit with gusto. They were a real solid first act.

It’s difficult to be unbiased when your boss fronts the next band. Seriously though, Dan Cribb & The Isolated had already been put through the works the night prior, supporting the headliners down in Bunbury, but they brought their all to the stage and got punters riled up with good stage banter, even managing to cause a bit of a ruckus at the front with party-goers flying into each other through the band’s latest single, The Last Time.

A short break and The Bennies took to the stage. Hordes of people rushed into the band room as the lads launched into Smoke Some Weed, but the party well and truly kicked off when they transitioned into their latest hit, Heavy Disco, which saw the collective audience in the front half of the room going absolutely nuts. Mushroom Tea built everyone up again before My Bike produced a rousing singalong. They dedicated What’s Your Fuckin’ Problem? to the previous bands, before Knights Forever had band and crowd participating, the former singing “Don’t you wish these nights go on forever?” and the crowd replying “No way, get fucked, fuck off!” A stage invasion of over 20 punters during Highrider capped off one hell of an evening. The Bennies really do know how to party – we need them back sooner rather than later.
