Album Review: Slim Twig - A Hound At The Helm

More Slim Twig Slim Twig Profile

Released in 2012, DFA have picked up this Slim Twig album, which already has something of a cult following, for wider release.

Based on Gainsbourg’s Historie De Melody Nelson and Nabokov’s Lolita, this is something of a concept album that toys with ‘60s paisley psychedelic-pop, complete with Owen Pallett’s elaborate string arrangements. Gainsbourg is an obvious point of reference but the deep gravel of Twig’s Thin White Duke-style vocals and freak-out lyrics puts a burly post-punk disco spin on his tunes.
