The next generation of big-name Australian popstars is incredibly bright at the moment - something we've talked about lots recently on Pilerats - with acts such as CXLOE, Kota Banks and Dean Lewis showing a lot of promise while others, like Troye Sivan, slay overseas. Cairns-raised, London-based musician Eves Karydas is undoubtedly included in this continually growing list of Australian pop alumni, and her debut album, summerskin, is set to do everything it needs to prove her place. Arriving on September 28th via Dew Process/Universal Music Australia, summerskin is set to showcase the brilliance of Eves Karydas and her confident and bold pop sound – something she's already brought to our attention with singles such as There For YouFurther Than The Planes FlyCouch and most recently, Damn Loyal, over the last twelve months.

In celebration of the album, she's just announced a bunch of Australian headline shows, that'll see her headline some pretty hefty venues in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in February next year, before she sets back off to Cairns for a homecoming headline show to top it all off – deets further below. Furthermore, with the album's release date quickly approaching, we're lucky enough to mark its release (and the headline shows) with a snazzy behind-the-scenes look at summerskin's creation. Including her time with Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa, mega-producer Sam Dixon, and running around London finding David Bowie murals, if this doesn't get you excited for the album, nothing well. Check it out below, and pre-order summerskin HERE.

Eves Karydas, taking us behind-the-scenes of summerskin:

I wanted to write a record that felt personal, and I wanted the way it was written and recorded to reflect that too. There were only a couple of people that worked on this with me, and all are my friends. This is Stella Mozgawa, the Aussie legend who drums for Warpaint. On this particular day, we wrote a song called Hush on these three OP-1 synths.

One of the best things about making this record was that it wasn’t rushed. I was given the time to explore and slowly find my way through my thoughts and tastes. I spent a lot of time learning about synths and cooking and relaxing and then learning about synths again. It was a very nice loop.

I made summerskin in two different studios on either side of London (Brixton and West Hampstead). This is called The Dairy, which is in Brixton. I could walk there from my house and every day I passed the giant mural of David Bowie which became my daily reminder to just be myself and go to work without any hang-ups.

The final song on summerskin is a song called Wildest Ones. Its one of the only songs with a guitar on it and one of my favourite songs. It was the last song I wrote for the album and sums up the story of the record perfectly.

This is Sam Dixon. We just laughed the whole way through making this record. This particular photo is a running joke we had about Sam being Bob from Twin Peaks.

This synth, the Analog Keys by Elektron, is the sonic bones of summerskin. Once I started writing on this synth, I couldn't stop. Everything started making sense at that point.

This is Chris Zane and I. Chris came on board halfway through making the record. He had just moved to London from NYC so we clicked straight away because of our similar expat status and general bemusement of British life.

I’m really proud of the vocals on this record. When I was recording them with Chris, he really made me push my boundaries. He would say things like “yeah that sounded in tune, but I didn’t believe it”. I think it took someone knowing me to know that I could always do better. We made a good team in that way, and I couldn’t be happier with how it sounds.
