Fringe: Karl Redgen: Rapid Fire

23 September 2014 | 12:08 pm | Brendan Hitchens

Karl Redgen’s Rapid Fire is a confusing 60-minute romp through South East Asia. Interspersing Hangover-type anecdotes of his time in Vietnam – smoking opium, running from a pimp and using the local currency as toilet paper – with a theatresports style of slapstick which depicts the sufferings of a soldier, Rapid Fire is at times more cringe than Fringe. It’s Redgen’s debut solo show and it’s evident; the rawness of his delivery and a thin plot is exposed. There are a handful of genuine laughs, as he retells rookie tourist mistakes, but shifting between characters, and accents, loses any momentum.
