Japanese Wallpaper's new track is intensely calming and brooding, leaving you asking yourself what will come of this artist.

One of the great things about covering music for this site is watching an artist start small, then grow and prosper into a fully fledged master - selling out tours and creating truly incredible music.

It's so satisfying to see the process of artists filling out their potential - and as music journalists covering a large amount of independent music, we deal in the commodity of potential. That's what validates our work.

Someone who is certainly going to be in that category within the next 5 years is Melbourne producer Gab Strum, also known as Japanese Wallpaper. The 17 year old has achieved so much in the last year with his track 'Breath In' feat. Wafia going viral, and with personal endorsements from artists like GotyeChet Faker and Bombay Bicycle Club, it seems certain that he's been earmarked as one to watch.

Most recently, Japanese Wallpaper teamed up with Pepa Knight, multi-instrumentalist from Jinja Safari fame, to provide a dreamy, blissed-out new track called 'Waves'. The production behind the track demonstrates a unique ability to create spacey, ambient electronica - similar to Oliver Tank - with Knight's strong vocal giving this track a most peaceful and warming texture.

Make no mistake about this artist, Japanese Wallpaper is artist that will make quality music for a long time to come, irrespective of how big or well-known he gets. Either way his potential will be lived up to, and we will all bask in it.
