Electronic outfit BLONDEBEARS, made up of mates Sebastian Morales and Jake Stiles, have released an atmospheric new tune, 'Sedative', that beats with angsty energy. The duo are based in South Sydney, and are creating buzz thanks to their intense and experimental sound.
After striking it big with their debut single, 'Dissolve', which went viral on Spotify and copped Triple J radio play, Blondebears have risen to the already high expectations of their second release. 'Sedative' is an echoey and eerie journey, blending genres and layering voices to create something that cannot be contained. Citing influences as diverse as Jay Z, David Bowie and Bjork, it comes as no surprise that Blondebears refuse to be categorised.
The song begins with a retro synth feel and an increasingly foreboding atmosphere, until the tension is released with a bold drum rhythm, then morphs again into a dissonant club jam. The mood of the song seems to move through the phases of a relationship breakdown, reaching the final stage of acceptance by the last note.
While it is still early days for the duo, the maturity and focus Blondebears have demonstrated with their music so far is impressive. Their collaboration with Sydney-based producer and artist MOOKHI on the video for 'Dissolve' showed that they are capable of intriguing visual exploration as well. The real question is: what are they going to do next?
