‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

Live Review: Last Dinosaurs, I Know Leopard, Braves

"Last Dinos decided to take performance into the direction of ‘90s house and R&B with a cover and mash-up of the songs 'Poison Arrow', 'Da Funk' and 'Music Sounds Better With You'."

Braves kicked off Last Dinosaur’s launch of their new single, Evie, with some lo-fi, indie goodness.

The band played their own interpretation of a sound that can be said to have played a part in the success of bands like The Drums, where frank, self-reflective lyrics and surfy riffs are the norm. Seapunk was a track that demonstrated the band’s performative energy, with everything about the song being catchy and addictive, a lyrical dose of nicotine. Maintaining the strong, rockabilly swing with tracks like True Feelings and Losing You, Braves made a memorable impression.

Sydney indie-pop outfit I Know Leopard enveloped the punters into a dream-like atmosphere with their catchy rapid drum beats and the perfect vocals. Tracks included the catchy Close My Eyes, with its vaguely ethereal qualities, and Sunsets with its catchy rhythm. Halfway through their set, they played their own version of TLC’s R&B hit Waterfalls, adding a unique soul flavour to the track. The band finished off with Perfect Picture, which set the festive crowd into overdrive, demonstrating their ability to interplay modern indie-pop with music from decades gone by.

Last Dinosaurs were welcomed on stage to a rapture of applause, with the crowd keen to hear some well laid-down tunes. The band opened with Weekend, which allowed the crowd to sample the band’s classic sound, a tasty combination of pop-infused lyrics with a heavy element of funk. Sunday Night continued the excitable sounds with a loud, exciting chorus and addictive melodies coming from lead guitarist Lachlan Caskey. Alps provided clean rhythmic tones and pleasing guitar arpeggios. Halfway through their set, the Last Dinos decided to take performance into the direction of ‘90s house and R&B with a cover and mash-up of the songs Poison Arrow, Da Funk and Music Sounds Better With You, all complemented by the sharp vocal of lead singer Sean Caskey. As the night wore on, the band gave the crowd a taste of their new single, Evie, which had a more polished quality than the other tracks, signifying the shift of more synth in their instrumentation. The night finished with popular track, Zoom, and a cheeky encore to the point where Smells Like Teen Spirit was almost jokingly played instead of Andy, to which Sean Caskey topped off the night with a crowdsurf. Last Dinosaur’s performance at Amplifier was pure, simple, fun.
