From the opening title track of Still Life - her third solo record - you get the feeling that Auldist was born in the wrong era. Counting On You and Changes have the authenticity that leads you to believe they are songs straight out of the '60s when Aretha Franklin ran supreme. Daydream continues on with that sound, and showcases Auldist's husky and powerful vocals. Letterhead Life is almost dream-like, stripping back the heavy, big band sound that is prominent throughout the album. Her cover of The Black Keys' track Howlin' For You is a standout - sultry and gritty, it's a flattering interpretation of the song.
Still Life could very well be the album that puts this fine singer's name on the lips of more people. A stunning third release.
