BuoyBUOY took to the stage at Newtown Social Club, their music appeared littered with vocal loops, driven by clunky keyboards, deep, booming beats and messy assemblages. Despite the many technical difficulties throughout the show, the duo managed to engage the early-bird audience rather effectively. The vocalist's words were lost in the electronic build-ups, although showcased through the minimal breakdowns. Her high register was at its peak in the repetitive vocal runs, appearing at the same intensity each time. The vocals were always flowing and music constantly changing, surprising.
The atmosphere buzzed and the crowd filled the room to the brim as Klo began their seamless set. From the moment they stepped on stage they showcased their nonchalant brilliance. Each movement and vocalisation was expressed with such ease, beckoning every set of eyes in the room. Klo's polished, half-paced groove got the audience swaying, hypnotised by the melodic pull of their catchy pop and ambient vibrations. Both members proved to be polished and skilful, their talent conquering multiple beats, keyboards, levels, transitions and vocals with complete ease to claim their place as one of Australia's finest new duos in the chill, electronic pop scene. They played their smooth debut, Make Me Wonder, from their EP, which eased the mood and encouraged carefree vibes, but as they transitioned into their newer tunes that were 'to be released', the music possessed a more dance feel with more layers and movement, proving their music has grown with their experiences as musicians. To finish, Klo played the song that was on the vinyls they gave to the crowd before the show, Under Lie. The venue at this point seemed to have been overwhelmed with psychedelic dance and excitement as the show ended too prematurely; it all flew by super swiftly.
