"At 12 songs it’s a long record – and often repetitive – but the self-reflective and pretty final song, I Don’t Care About Your Band, is worth the wait."

More Kevin Devine More Kevin Devine

Bubblegum
is the 'loud' half of Brooklyn-based indie rock singer-songwriter Kevin Devine's double album release (with solo record Bulldozer). Citing Pixies as an influence, there are definitely some riffs here innovative enough for that to ring true, especially on highlight, Bloodhound. But this record could have benefitted from some of that band's selective restraint, especially in the production. Instruments often feel crammed in and Devine's impressive voice is unable to shine. At 12 songs it's a long record – and often repetitive – but the self-reflective and pretty final song, I Don't Care About Your Band, is worth the wait.
