While a lot of the songs tend to blend into one another, with the exception of the slower-paced Chiral Part I, Arecibo is still an impressive debut.

If you've heard of Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus, then you may as well have heard Forever The Optimist's debut LP, which offers nothing we haven't already heard from the prog-rock genre. Having said this, the album is well polished and delivered with intense conviction – the Brisbane-based quartet are probably well aware they're not breaking any new ground, but you get the impression they couldn't care less. While a lot of the songs tend to blend into one another, with the exception of the slower-paced Chiral Part I, Arecibo is still an impressive debut.
