Album Review: El Moth - Life's A Ride

Life’s A Ride doesn’t try to adapt or build. Rather, it seems content just plodding along.

Highly compatible with an afternoon beer garden session (though lounging under a palm tree would be more suitable), this EP keeps it simple and takes its time. Opener Cold Faces introduces us to its strong reggae grooves and funky basslines while Must I's retro keyboard tones play on a nostalgic quality. Frontman Tim Smith's rhythmic, off-kilter vocals emit typically lackadaisical lyrics, which occasionally slip into trite platitudes. Life's A Ride doesn't try to adapt or build. Rather, it seems content just plodding along. El Moth play at The Hi-Fi on 14 Mar.
