'You Could See Us Even If You Didn't Want To': Why Grinspoon Went On Hiatus In 2013

Grinspoon fans were left stunned in late 2013 when the Aussie outfit announced an indefinite hiatus but according to frontman Phil Jamieson it was the right move. 

Appearing on the latest episode of The Green Room with Neil Griffiths podcast, Jamieson said he felt Grinspoon "became ubiquitous" after touring much of the year in support of their 2012-released album, Black Rabbits.

"I just think you could see us even if you didn't want to. You could turn up to a festival and we would be there," Jamieson told Neil Griffiths.

"Gregg, our manager, was like, 'You guys need to turn the tap off. Even if people didn't wanna see you, they're seeing us.' They might just be waiting for MGMT at Splendour and there's fucking me again."

Jamieson continued, "I just think we did it full time and number one, we were getting older, families were coming along etc etc and number two, it just became smarter. We like each other more. It's just a nicer way to be."

Grinspoon will embark on another headline tour of Australia this October in support of the forthcoming Chemical Hearts vinyl release.

"I don't know when we'll tour again after this because, to be honest, [the 2017 Guide To Better Living 20th anniversary tour] led into 2018 which was Groovin The Moo," Jamieson said.

"Groovin The Moo was awesome and then now we're here so, I thought we'd packed everything away but we haven't and here we are."

On the episode, Jamieson also discussed whether we can ever expect another Grinspoon album, as well as his own solo music.
