The biopic drama about the life of Queen Elizabeth cost more than $100 million to make.
Long live the golden age of television and the king of the online streaming services, Netflix, which has just dropped the teaser trailer for its latest original series The Crown.
It’s a biopic drama about the Queen of Australia (and Great Britain), Elizabeth II, and it cost a queen’s ransom to make – more than $100 million. The ten-part series is by far most expensive show ever created by the online streaming giant, but it’s easy to see where the money’s been sent.
The show not only looks pretty damn regal, the cast are a swanky bunch too. Claire Foy (Wolfhall) will play Her Royal Highness opposite former Doctor Who Matt Smith in the role of the Queen’s husband, Prince Phillip.
Most excitingly, they’ve only bloody gone and snagged John Lithgow (Third Rock From The Sun, Intersteller) to play Winston bloody Churchill, so even if you’re a rabid republican who thinks the monarchy should be turfed out of Buckingham Palace, Lithgow alone should make this new drama a must-see.
