A US Metal Band Played A Gig At A Restaurant & Trashed It... But We've Seen Weirder

And here we are, heading to our local pub every other night to see live music...

US metal outfit Wacko reportedly destroyed a restaurant in California this past week, performing a gig at a local Denny’s which saw a mosh pit tear the American diner-style venue apart.

Sure, we’d love to see the likes of King Parrot, High Tension or Thy Art Is Murder pull off a wall of death at our local Maccas, but even that wouldn’t come close to some of the wildest gigs that have gone down in history.

So, as we prepare to enter a new decade in which literally anything could become a venue, we take a look back at some of the more bizarre and awe-inspiring gigs over the years.

KANYE WEST DOING THE MOST KANYE WEST THING EVER

Kanye West is known for unleashing impromptu performances, something that passengers aboard a flight from Minneapolis to New York in 2010 got to experience first-hand when the US artist decided to bust out into Gold Digger and Good Life mid-flight. The funniest part would have been watching people who weren’t aware he was famous.

STARMAN

Chris Hadfield might just be the coolest astronaut alive. He was the first Canadian to walk in space, but that wasn’t enough for him. Being a musician himself and huge David Bowie fan, Hadfield decided to record a cover of Space Oddity and film an accompanying music video WHILE IN SPACE. While technically not a live performance, that’s pretty damn impressive.

DEFTONES' CHINO MORENO PERFORMS INSIDE A VOLCANO

Because why not? Back in 2016, around 20 extremely lucky fans go to witness the Deftones frontman performing 400ft underground inside Iceland’s Thrihnuagigur Volcano, where he played Change (In The House Of Flies) alongside Morrissey and David Bowie covers. Attendees had to pay roughly $2,500AUD and trek two and a half hours to the chamber where the performance took place.

SALT ROCK

Perhaps Moreno took inspiration from fellow US rockers Queens Of The Stone Age, who, in 2007, performed a semi-acoustic set 2,300 feet underground in a German salt mine. Unfortunately, despite the below trailer being released, the full performance has never been released. Some fans are probably pretty salty about that.

METALLICA ON ICE

There is, however, plenty of footage of Metallica’s once-in-a-lifetime gig in Antarctica. In 2013, the US outfit were the first-ever major music act to perform in Antarctica, unleashing an hour-long set to a crowd of only 120 people.

BON IVER PERFORM IN A CEMETERY

Our next pick is chilling for a different reason. 10 years ago, Justin Vernon and co performed in thick fog at Hollywood Forever Cemetery as the sun was rising. The 6am performance featured 12 songs.

WALL OF NOISE

In a live music spectacular so grand that Chris Hadfield could probably see it from space (or at least the venue), Alicia Keys, Cyndi Lauper and more all took part in The Great Wall Of China Concert in 2004.

DID WE DREAM THIS?

We didn’t know how badly we needed this until we saw it. In 1996, The Presidents Of The United States Of America gave the people of the world what they wanted (we assume) by performing at the base of Mt Rushmore.
