More Karnivool More Karnivool

Perth metal band Karnivool has ended the year by leaving fans wanting (and perhaps getting) more in 2025. The five-piece has piqued fans’ attention by announcing their return to the studio this December to work on new material.

This development comes after a period of anticipation following their 2021 single, All It Takes, which was released alongside the Blu-ray of Decade Of Sound Awake, a live performance celebrating their influential 2009 album. The new single and visual offering are already three years old, following that of another eight-year gap of their last album, Asymmetry, in 2013.

The band announced the hint of new music on their Twitter, with a 2024 wrap-up post:

“2024 – Thank you. 24 shows across 10 countries. Closing out the year in the studio. Much love and appreciation, friends. We’ll see you next year.”

A breadcrumb trail of hints about new music has been slowly unfurling over the year from the band, with drummer Steve Judd posting a teaser on Instagram in February that sparked curiosity on Karnivool fan forums

In February, Judd shared a photo of his tasty-looking setup, tagging drumming companies Zildjian, Remo, Pearl Drums, and Vic Firth.

In the caption, Judd tagged producer Forrester Savell, who produced the Karnivool albums Themata (2005) and Sound Awake (2009). In addition to his Karnivool credits, Savell has worked with Aussie progressive metal and metalcore legends Sunk Loto, Make Them Suffer, The Omnific, Twelve Foot Ninja, and many more.

In a 2022 interview, lead vocalist Ian Kenny reflected on the band’s creative process, hinting at the band’s forward-looking approach and expressing excitement about new material.

While new music was not a-go in 2024, Karnivool did embark on their first Australian tour in 2 years (notably skipping their home city of Perth), and have announced that the Tri Continental Drift Tour will be kicking off in Europe and the UK in mid 2025. This will include appearances at Midsummer Prog Festival in the Netherlands and Greenfield Festival in Switzerland, as well as a special performance in a Castle in the UK.

As for new music in 2025, we can only hope that Karnivool aren’t pulling our leg.
