Another year, another triple j Unearthed High competition reveals its top five finalists.

Since its inception in 2007, the Unearthed High competition has been there to help launch the careers of some of Australia’s most beloved artists, from The Kid LAROI and Genesis Owusu to Sycco, Gretta Ray, and Hockey Dad.

Each year, the competition discovers the next generation of Australian talent, offering young, emerging acts the opportunity to have a platform for their music to be heard.

This year’s winner will be announced next week and will receive an epic prize.

The Unearthed High winner will receive a songwriting session of their choice with the following massive Australian names: The Jungle Giants, Peach PRC, What So Not, and Nerve, plus mentorship and support from industry experts. Flights and accommodation will also be covered.

In addition to the Unearthed High winner, the Indigenous Initiative winner will have their next single mixed by the critically acclaimed engineer Konstantin Kersting, as well as receive mentorship from triple j’s Blak Out host and member of 3%, Nooky.

This year’s finalists are:

DRIZZZ

The London-born, Sydney-based artist DRIZZZ has been making waves in Australian hip-hop with two excellent records to his name. The 16-year-old channels the confidence of the likes of Central Cee and AJ Tracey, all while making music from his Campbelltown bedroom.

Frank & Louis

Sunshine Coast favourites Frank & Louis return to the Unearthed High competition after competing last year. Rare back-to-back finalists, the duo have honed their craft through busking and releasing music until what’s now their final year of high school. This year, they enter the running with the self-produced King Baby.

Heyzuko!

Representing the West Coast, hip-hop artist Heyzuko! is a Filipino-Australian based in Perth. The 16-year-old’s musical aesthetic pulls from Juice and The Kid LAROI, with bright vocal sensitivities highlighted throughout his music.

RIAH

Sydney-based RIAH, who comes from Tongan, Fijian, Aboriginal and Italian descent, has a diverse, exciting take on silky R&B. For her tracks, she brings rich elements of her upbringing: Tongan hymns, Italian records, Fijian lullabies, reggae, jazz, country and R&B, for a textured, smooth brand of roots and blues.

Theeth

Theeth has caught the ear of Melbourne producer Alice Ivy, while blowing away the triple j team with her effortless brand of indie pop. With the bounce of Remi Wolf and grooves reminiscent of The Avalanches, Theeth is primed to become a playlist staple in Australia.
