"The grand old Duke of York / He said he didn't sweat / So why did he pay 12 million quid / To a girl he'd never met?"
As the Queen approaches her Platinum Jubilee, the royal family is making headlines in music circles for the wrong reasons, with satirical punk single, Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce climbing the UK's charts.
The song is a track by a band hosted by dark comedy singer, The Kunts, and follows previously releases singles Boris Johnson Is A F**cking C**t, which released in 2020 and Boris Johnson Is Still A F**cking C**t in 2022. The two tracks peaked at No. 5 on the UK official single charts.
The latest single, is a satirial reworking of nursery rhyme, The Grand Old Duke Of York, and features the lyrics, "The grand old Duke of York / He said he didn't sweat / So why did he pay 12 million quid / To a girl he'd never met?" in reference to his friendship with Jeffery Epstein.
Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce has climbed the charts, rising to 12th place on the UK's Official Trending Chart. It's also sitting in the top 10 of the iTunes charts, sitting just wedged between Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand which features in the latest Top Gun film and Singrid and Bring Me The Horizon's newest single Bad Life.
It's been driven highly due to its very distinct release strategy, with the band releasing multiple versions of the track and encouraging fans to take part in 24 hour stream cycles to push it up the chart.
Australian comedy group The Chaser also employed a similar tactic with their recent diss track to now ex-Prime Minister Scott Morrison, releasing EDM single Coal Makes Me C*m. The track reached No. 1 on the iTunes charts.
