TISM Announce First Album & Headline Tour In 20 Years, Drop Lead Single

The new age of TISM is officially upon us, with the iconic Aussie shock-rockers dropping three bombshell announcements on us: their first new studio album and headline tour in 20 years, plus the album’s lead single.

The album, tour and single all share the same title, Death To Art, with the single out today (August 7), the album out on October 7, and the tour kicking off just a few weeks later.

Before we unpack those last two items in more detail, let’s talk about the single: it’s three-and-a-half minutes of quintessential TISM, extremely tongue-in-cheek and laden with pop-culture references both timely and knowingly outdated. And of course it’s way, way catchier than it has any right to be.

The song arrives alongside a music video starring the members of TISM, as well as their children, all destroying various works of art – including dozens of the band’s own albums and pieces of merchandise. Have a look at it below:

On streaming services, the Death To Art single is accompanied by the B-side Suspected Illegal Entry Vessel 915 (The Ballad Of Jen And Steve). That track doesn’t appear on the Death To Art LP – TISM’s seventh studio album, and the first since their 2004 effort The White Albun – but only because it’s so jam-packed with other (and ostensibly better) songs.

The album spans a total of 17 tracks, including previous single I’ve Gone Hillsong, Cunts v Cunts and The ‘C’ Word, alongside tunes with such incredible titles as I Can’t Wait For My Generation To Die, Mein Bandkampf, and TISM's Last Will And Testicle. Last but certainly not least, the Death To Art tour will kick off in Brisbane (Meanjin) on Sunday October 20, when TISM shamelessly desecrate the Riverstage. They’ll violate Melbourne (Naarm) next, abusing punters at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday November 9, before wrapping up their tour (and careers) at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney (Eora) on Friday November 29.

TISM will be joined on the tour by two cult-beloved bands reuniting after lengthy stints away – Machine Gun Fellatio (performing for the first time in 19 years) and The Mavis’s (for the first time in seven years) – as well as Eskimo Joe and Ben Lee. Meanwhile, last week saw TISM float the idea that they should perform at this year’s AFL Grand Final, with their management suggesting they’re better more suited for the game’s live entertainment program than Katy Perry.
