"Festival crowds are not necessarily my crowds, but who knows?"
Tim Minchin's debut album will finally be released tomorrow but the Australian songwriter initially planned to launch it at Splendour In The Grass earlier this year.
The Perth-raised musician and comedian, who is set to release his first record Apart Together tomorrow, was set to perform at the 2020 Splendour festival before it was called off in June due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.
Appearing on a new episode of The Green Room with Neil Griffiths podcast, Minchin revealed what the plans were for his debut Splendour In The Grass performance.
"That's why this album's taken so long. What was that, July? That was meant to be the launch," Minchin told host Neil Griffiths.
"That was when this album was meant to come out."

Splendour organisers announced in July that the 2021 festival will go ahead with UK heavyweights Gorillaz to headline alongside Tyler, The Creator and The Strokes and Minchin said he is interested in sticking on the bill.
"Maybe I'll play next year and it will be even better," Minchin said.
"Festival crowds are not necessarily my crowds, but who knows?
When I was still living in England, I was playing festival main stages. People liked watching me play because the interesting thing is it's not just that I do comedy. I'm a bit of a throwback in that when you come and see one of my gigs, I have, like, eight or ten muso's on stage and there's whole solo sections and stuff."
Minchin will instead launch Apart Together with a one-off livestreamed concert recorded in Sydney premiering tonight. Click on theGuide for more details.
