"It started last Christmas - pun not intended - when we asked friends how much they would be willing to pay never to hear the song again."

Hannah and Tomas Mazetti hate Last Christmas by Wham! so much that they're raising money to buy the song rights and banish it from the air forever - they have already raised £51,553 ($91,973.65 AUD) from 327 people to achieve their mission.
Hannah told My London that her hatred of the song began 13 years ago: "I was studying English and worked extra to pay the bills, and the owner of the café had planned for a super cosy holiday season and had his own made CD with a number of 'hits' on it. He was only in now and then, so he didn’t fully appreciate the agony the rest of the staff felt when Last Christmas played for the 111th time of the working day."
The couple then asked friends how much they would pay never to hear the song again, and a few told them that it was "theoretically possible" to buy the song rights and remove it from streaming services. The two have set a goal of a whopping $15,000,000, which will take them to the next stage of negotiations with Warner Chappell Music UK.
Hannah clarified that she doesn't hate Wham!; she just hates the song. However, the couple's stance on Last Christmas has also received backlash.
"50 per cent get really angry, and 50 per cent get really happy. Some people seem to love to hear the song 500 times a day. And those people are our enemies," she said.
She added, "They say that there are even worse songs that should be taken off before this - like Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas - and that if we don’t like it, we could wear headphones, and that it is strange to want to remove something beautiful for the rest of humanity just because we don’t like it."

Mariah Carey's festive classic, All I Want For Christmas Is You, has seen its sixth week atop the ARIA charts. The hit has also now logged a fifth consecutive year at #1 on Christmas week itself, having first done so in 2018 and every year since, while this year is its first stay at #1 for a second week, having only ever spent single/solo weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart in the past.
