Australians have enjoyed something of a curious love affair with veteran US alt-rockers They Might Be Giants ever since Doctor Worm enraptured our ears to the point of scoring #13 on the 1998 triple j Hottest 100 countdown, or even arguably before that.
Now, the relationship is set to be taken one step further as the venerated outfit release a live recording of their seminal 1990 full-length Flood, performed while the band were recently in Australia on tour — and they've released it free (well, it'll cost you an email address).
Flood originally dropped way back in January of 1990, and went on to become considered the They Might Be Giants album to own, racking up critical acclaim (if not exactly mind-boggling sales numbers) in its wake and generating four successful singles — including legitimate best-cover-of-all-time contender Istanbul (Not Constantinople) — as well as playing home to classic tracks such as Particle Man and Your Racist Friend, the latter of which you might recognise as having been covered by Aussie punk vets Bodyjar (the cover was included on 1998 compilation Singles & Stuff, after appearing on the limited-edition Strange Harvest EP in 1997).

While you're waiting for your free live Flood recording to download, cut straight to the chase and get your quirky dance on with a little Istanbul (Not Constantinople), because as if we'd pass up the opportunity to listen to this song.
Of course, that's not all They Might Be Giants are up to this year — they're reviving the Dial-A-Song project as part of a return to their roots "as the progenitors of the FREE MUSIC FOR EVERYBODY movement", which will see the band offer up a brand new free song every Tuesday for the rest of the year and kicked off in mid-January with new ditty Erase.
Thanks, They Might Be Giants!
