The Living EndThere’s always contention surrounding the AFL Grand Final live entertainment announcement, but it seems the powers that be have finally come to their senses and locked down some decent Aussie talent to headline the massive event, with Vance Joy and The Living End confirmed.
The exciting news follows on from Mushroom Group founder Michael Gudinski hinting at an all-Australian bill for the Oct 1 staple, and will see a pre-game performance from both at the MCG as well as a post-game appearance, the latter of which will be free entry with access from 6pm.
Currently touring the States, The Living End frontman Chris Cheney said it was an honour to play the iconic event.
“The Living End have always been proud to call ourselves a Melbourne band and we all grew up loving football and rock'n'roll, so to have the chance to rock the G on Grand Final day is a career highlight,” Cheney said.
While Vance Joy joined AFL chief executive officer Gillon McLachlan for the announcement, saying: “I’ve been watching the AFL Grand Final for as long as I can remember, it’s an absolute honour and dream to be able to perform at the game on October 1.”
Over the past two years, the AFL has signed on Ellie Goulding, Bryan Adams, Chris Isaak, Ed Sheeran and Tom Jones for the gig.
