Bakers EddyNew Zealand punk rockers Bakers Eddy have announced they’ll be disbanding soon.
In a social media post, they shared that their priorities have changed over the past five years and that “the time has come” to embark on a new journey. They added that rather than changing the line-up, it is not an option, as “this band is not Bakers Eddy without all four of us.”
While the group formed as a bunch of teenagers in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2009, it wasn’t until 2017 that they relocated to Melbourne and released a majority of their music from Australia. In March 2022, the band released their debut album, Love Boredom Bicycles. They’ve also released three EPs, as well as an abundance of singles.
An impending disbandment is on the way, but Bakers Eddy won’t disappear without one last show for their fans—more information on that to come soon.
“This is not an easy post to write up, but the four of us have made the incredibly difficult decision to close the ‘Bakers Eddy’ chapter in our lives,” the band shared on social media on Monday (4 May).
They continued, “It’s been the hardest call to make, considering how much this band has impacted our lives in every way possible, since we were teenagers, but as we’ve gotten older, our lives have changed, and for some of us, our priorities have shifted from where they were 5 years ago. The time has come for us to go on that journey now.

“We are so proud of everything we’ve accomplished over the last 15 years of our lives. We’ve made so many amazing friends over the years, played so many crazy shows all over the world and made so many beautiful, stupid, ‘sad and happy’ songs.
“I think the most impactful part of all this has been the love and connection so many of you have for the music we make and the stories you guys share with us at shows about ways our songs have touched you in some way. That shit will live with us forever, so thank you. We’ve always said this, but we have the best fans in the world.”
The four-piece—Ciarann Babbington, Jamie Gordon, and twin brothers Alex Spagnolo and Ian Spagnolo—concluded, “We speak about it often, but this has always been more than a band to the 4 of us. I don’t think anything we can say will do justice to how much this band has meant to us.
“We’re incredibly lucky that somehow miraculously we’ve managed to remain high school sweethearts all the way through our 20s, which is a rare feat. Who the fuck knows where we would’ve been without this band, so for that, we’re so grateful.
“We have so many people to thank, and so much to say that I think will drip out of us over the next month, but this band is not Bakers Eddy without all four of us, there is no replacements in this band, it’s Finito… But not without one last show, so stay tuned.”
Bakers Eddy’s latest EP, I’m Doing Better, was released last year.
Babbington said of the project, “It’s a step in a new direction for us, and I think it will feel like a breath of fresh air for anyone who has been a fan for the last few years. We’re wearing our early emo/pop-punk influences on our sleeve more than we’ve ever done, and we’re speaking about things that really matter to us.
“We’re letting people in on our experiences growing up together, and at times we’re being more vulnerable than we’ve ever been before. But it’s high-energy at all times, which has become a staple of this band and something I don’t think will ever go away.”
