Bakers Eddy are hitting the road next month in support of their new EP, I’m Doing Better.
Self-produced by the band alongside Vincent McIntyre (Fan Girl, Mr Industry, Elizabeth M. Drummond), mixed by Justin Gerrish (Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Weezer), and mastered by Emily Lazar (Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Sia), I’m Doing Better sees the band blending alt-rock, pop, and 2000s garage rock for an energetic release.
The new EP from the Melbourne/Naarm-based, New Zealand/Aotearoa-raised band is the follow-up to their 2022 debut album, Love Boredom Bicycles.
Led by Ngati Porou Ngati Tuwharetoa frontman Ciarann Babbington, drummer Jamie Gordon and twin brothers Ian and Alex Spagnolo, the tour takes place in August and September through metropolitan and regional Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria.
Babbington said of the I’m Doing Better EP, “It’s a step in a new direction for us, and I think it will feel like a breath of fresh air for anyone who has been a fan for the last few years. We’re wearing our early emo/pop-punk influences on our sleeve more than we’ve ever done, and we’re speaking about things that really matter to us.
“We’re letting people in on our experiences growing up together, and at times we’re being more vulnerable than we’ve ever been before. But it’s high-energy at all times, which has become a staple of this band and something I don’t think will ever go away.”

Obviously, being from Aotearoa, the four of us have a deep-rooted love for Scribe. This song will flip the trip, regardless of the mood; Not Many will provide balance within the vehicle.
I think to us, this song is just a reminder of home, wherever we are in the world. It’s so uniquely kiwi.
Miss June are probably the best Punk band in Aotearoa right now. I think we mostly listen to a lot of NZ music in the car; it’s nice, and it’s like our little bonding moment. That being said…
We’re Green Day babies, I don’t really need to explain this one. This is a utility song, though. It will always work on the house music playlist because our fans are just like us.
There are a few guarantees in life: taxes, the chemicals that create us as humans, and a Bakers crowd knowing all the words to Misery Business.
I think anything Bizkit is always going to get a Bakers crowd hyped, this is just my personal fave.
Starting to realise that the Bakers house music is actually just my personal hype playlist.
I love hearing this through the house speakers. I would say with a few more years under its belt, it would make a pretty baller walk on song too. Needs to season a bit, though.
Another surefire bring the house down into song moment. We used to cover this song, and we might bring it back.
The never-seen 17, the GOAT. The greatest theme in the history of the WWE. Wrestling themes are by far the best walk-on songs.
We used this once. The issue is that the actual walk-on part of the song is a good minute long, which is perfect for drawing out suspense, but not when your drummer completely misses the memo and walks out 5 seconds in. Naturally, we left him out there to deal with that.
This one feels cliché and obvious, but nothing makes me happier than hearing this straight after a set. Doesn’t matter if you bombed or it was the greatest set you’ve played, Beyond the Sea has the magic juice. It’s either that, or it’s Cult of Personality by Living Colour.
