The Saints 73-78, Regurgitator, Tropical Fuck Storm, and Full Flower Moon Band are just some of the names who will gather and perform in Brisbane to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the community radio station, 4ZZZ.

A massive event will take place on the Roma Street Parklands on Saturday, 25 October, from midday until late. Across two stages, clash-free live music will take over for 4ZZZ - ZED50: A Market Day Celebration of 50 Years of 4ZZZ Radio.

In addition to the acts mentioned above, the ZED50 event will be packed with local talent, including Briggs’ metal-inspired new project Big Noter, Butterfingers, Screamfeeder, Nice Biscuit, Party Dozen, Dancingwater, Flangipanis, Platonic Sex, and Velociraptor. It’s essentially a “who’s who” of Brisbane (and Australian) music.

You can sign up for pre-sale tickets starting today. Pre-sale tickets to 4ZZZ subscribers will be available from 12 pm on Wednesday, 11 June – you just need to use your 4ZZZ subscription number to receive your early access code. Tickets to the general public will be available on Thursday, 12 June, at 12 pm local time. You can find tickets via Oztix.

4ZZZ Chairperson Ruth Gardner said of the milestone anniversary and its celebrations: “This is more than a birthday—it’s a tribute to everyone who’s ever tuned in, turned up, or taken part.”

Of course, the ZED50 event won’t be the only celebration of 4ZZZ’s five decades on the airwaves. There’s a full 50th anniversary program which runs from Friday, 8 August, until Monday, 8 December. You can find more details on the 4ZZZ website.

Since its inception to now, five decades later, the radio station has been home to a booming growth of independent creatives (and independent thought), helping to fuel Brisbane’s unique identity.

4ZZZ began as a student-led community radio station at the University of Queensland in 1975. Still standing as one of the most enduring independent voices in Australian media, the radio station continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the city’s music, cultural, and political atmospheres.

The station remains a hub for artists, musicians, activists, journalists, and volunteers, maintaining the spirit of resistance from the hyper-conservative era of Joh Bjelke-Petersen. On 4ZZZ, you don’t hear from disengaged young people. Instead, you’re exposed to politically engaged, artistic people who provide the soundtrack to life’s biggest moments.
