One of Australia’s most beloved rock bands, The Living End, will release their first album in eight years this September and tour across the country this November.
The highly anticipated album, I Only Trust Rock ‘n’ Roll, will be released on Friday, 26 September, via BMG. The eleven-track LP makes for their leanest, fiercest, and most thrilling statement to date – check out the title track below.
Sonically, guitarist and vocalist Chris Cheney says the band “were very clear” when it came to recording the album.
He explains, “We did not want to make a big, over-the-top record with a hundred parts. We’ve made those records. This one had to sound like a slick machine. Trim the fat. Yeah, there are those harmonies and extra guitar bits. But a big part of the writing was knowing what a song didn’t need.”
Fans who pre-order the album will receive an email with access to the tour pre-sale. The band’s upcoming Australian tour begins at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Saturday, 8 November.

It continues at Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Friday, 14 November, Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens as part of the Live At The Gardens series on Saturday, 22 November, Fremantle Prison on Saturday, 29 November, and wraps up at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt as part of the On The Steps programme on Friday, 12 December.
Tickets will be available from Friday, 25 July, at 10 am local time via The Living End’s website. Pre-order the album here.
For this tour, The Living End will present two special sets for fans. The first set will consist of songs from I Only Trust Rock ‘n’ Roll, plus hits like White Noise, Roll On, Who’s Gonna Save Us, and others. The second set will see the band play their self-titled debut in its entirety – hear All Torn Down, Second Solution, Prisoner Of Society, and the rest this spring and summer.
“The best gigs are when we come off completely rooted. We leave nothing behind,” drummer Andy Strachan said.
Double bassist Scott Owen added, “We’ve been through a lot together, and we’ve learned when to get out of each other’s way. At the end of the day, it’s about three guys, plugged in, going for it. No tricks. Songs that hit hard and mean something.”
