The Espy Plots The Gershwin Room's 100th Anniversary Celebration Gigs
The Espy's iconic Gershwin Room celebrates its centenary this year, and you're invited to shows from Cosmic Psychos, Eskimo Joe, Augie March, and more.

The world of music might have changed immensely over the past 100 years, but iconic St Kilda venue The Espy is proving that one thing that has remained consistent is the Gershwin Room’s commitment to providing a good night out.
For any Victorian music fan, both The Esplanade Hotel (better known as The Espy) and its iconic Gershwin Room have been staples of the live scene. Whether it be where you attended your first gig or your 101st gig, the magic of The Espy has never faded.
While The Espy itself has been operating since 1878, the Gershwin Room first opened in 1924, becoming a main attraction for the St Kilda venue. Now, it’s time to celebrate its centenerary with a series of gigs from the iconic names who have graced those stages.
Taking place across three weekends in December, The Espy will be throwing open the doors to the Gershwin Room and welcoming some of Australia’s most beloved names who have in turn performed revered sets at the venue.

On Sunday, December 8th, the festivities will kick off with a headline performance by Aussie grunge iconic Cosmic Psychos. Fresh from opening shows in Melbourne and Sydney for Seattle rockers Pearl Jam (who themselves worship at the altar of the Psychos), the Melbourne outfit will bring their uniquely Australian sound to The Espy for the first time since 2019.
Days later, on Friday, December 13th, Fremantle favourites Eskimo Joe will head to the venue for a set full of classic hits and old favourites. Lastly, Christmas will come (slightly) early on Saturday, December 21st when Augie March will bring their soaring, majestic sound back to The Gershwin Room, only six months after they last graced the stage.
If that’s not enough, organisers have also promised there’s more to be announced. In the meantime, however, tickets to The Espy’s celebrations of 100 years of The Gershwin Room are on sale now.
