Tash Sultana has given aspiring musicians advice on how to be both seen and heard in the modern social media age.

Taking to social media on Monday, Tash shared a video urging young creatives to change the way in which they create material to promote their talents, offering the advice that video content is the way forward.

“Stop sending your mixtape, ITS DEAD,” Tash wrote in the caption to their video. “Sorry to say I know from experience unfortunately no one has the time and patience to sit through and listen to something these days🎤 it’s sad I know.

“You gotta make content instead! 🎥 If you wanna get seen you gotta get SEEN.”

In the video, Tash expanded upon the concept, explaining that in the current “visual world” in which we live, sending music in a manner such as mixtapes is an outdated method which won’t translate to success.

“What my advice would be to you if you want to get seen is; make yourself seen, make content, make videos, do collaborations with people,” Tash explained. “Anything that is going to get your video to come up on somebody's screen when they're scrolling is the way that you break through in 2025.

“Stop sending a link that no one's going to click and start putting your performances absolutely everywhere because you never know who's watching.”

Though some aspiring artists might note that this is obvious information given the rise of short-form viral videos in the TikTok and Instagram Reels age, others still might be right in agreeing it is unfortunate information, given that it requires musicians to now become editors, social media experts, and marketers. However, Tash’s insights come from years of experience.

Having started making music as a teenager, Tash rose to fame thanks to viral performances as both a busker and in their bedroom. The result was millions of views which helped to kickstart a career that has since boasted a chart-topping album, an ARIA Award, and countless sold-out shows the world over.

Earlier this month, Tash returned with new single Milk & Honey, which came accompanied by a Live at Lonely Lands Studio performance, taking the listener and viewer back to where it all began the acclaimed musician, and harking back to that early viral fame.
