Right now, the only songs fans can stream from 'Toxicity' are the singles 'Chop Suey!,' 'Aerials,' and the title track.

System Of A Down fans across the globe woke up or went to bed with a shock today, as the band’s iconic 2001 album, Toxicity, has disappeared from Spotify.
At the time of publication, if you try to search for the album, you won’t find it. However, if you press play on Chop Suey!, you’ll see the full tracklist, with most of it blurred out. Right now, the only songs fans can stream from the album are singles Chop Suey!, Aerials, and the title track.

Fans, of course, are upset that one of the most successful metal albums of the 2000s is no longer available to listen to on the biggest music streaming platform.
“WHY IS TOXICITY NOT ON SPOTIFY RN DO NOTTT PLAY WITH ME,” an X (formerly known as Twitter) user wrote, and they’re not the only one expressing sadness. Another fan wrote, “why did toxicity get removed from spotify” with a broken heart emoji and a Chop Suey! gif. It’s safe to say that there are a lot of emotions on social media today.
Also posting with caps lock enabled, another user wrote, “WHERE. THE. FUCK. IS. SYSTEM OF A DOWNS ENTIRE TOXICITY ALBUM ON SPOTIFY….” while a cheeky fan quipped, “serj tankian being on the fbi watchlist rn and getting toxicity taken off of spotify oh 2005 soad we are so back.”
Some fans, however, believe there could be a transition going on—perhaps the upload of the Blue Edition of Toxicity, which, on Apple Music, includes the bonus track Johnny, and four live tracks (Sugar, War?, Suite-Pee, and Know).
You can find more fan reactions below.
The Music has reached out to representatives for Spotify and System Of A Down for comment.
Toxicity was released on 4 September 2001. It debuted at #1 in the US and Canada and #6 in Australia. With its blend of nu-metal, traditional Armenian and Greek music, folk, progressive rock, and jazz, Toxicity is beloved for being such an unusual yet powerful album.
In terms of lyrical content, the album is just as heavy as its riffs, with commentary on mass incarceration, the CIA, police brutality, environmental issues, and more.
However, the release of Toxicity was marred by controversy. The band were due to host a free concert in Hollywood the day before the album’s release, but due to overcrowding, the show was cancelled. A six-hour riot ensued; another System Of A Down show was cancelled to prevent a potential riot.
A week after the album’s release, singer Serj Tankian published a blog post about the 9/11 terror attacks just two days later, with mentions of America’s Middle East Policy and how fighting for oil led to many more problems in the Middle East. Chop Suey! was also banned from US radio stations, despite Toxicity being the #1 album in the country, due to the lyric, “I cry when angels deserve to die.”
In a 2002 interview with Rave Magazine, guitarist and co-vocalist Daron Malakian said, “We’re getting a lot of compliments for Toxicity, but when we wrote this record, I felt like I was still learning how to make our music.
“The fact that people give it praise just makes me feel like I’m not done yet. I’m still a student, and I don’t feel like we deserve that much praise just yet.”
