Band hit the Cooly before the Opera House

The Sunnyboys will play their first hometown shows with the original line-up since 1991 as they warm up for an appearance at this year's Vivid LIVE festival.

The seminal Australian post-punk re-appeared under the guise of Kids In Dust at last year's Dig It Up! invitational and after indicating that they may play again the four-piece toured with Elvis Costello and were added to the Sydney Opera House's Vivid.

At that festival's announcement the band's Pete Oxley said, “[Dig It Up!] was just to see if we enjoyed playing and could get the good feel and play well, and that Jeremy [Oxley, frontman] was actually comfortable to play. We were trying to make him feel like he wasn't under any pressure, so we didn't actually play under the name Sunnyboys. But we played really well and Jeremy loved it and from there we were offered lots of shows. We thought, 'Well, let's play under our real name'.”

Even though their originally from New South Wales, the two consecutive Coolangatta shows are being dubbed the 'hometown comeback'.
