If you've ever walking around your house involuntarily and incessantly singing catchy pop songs like Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk, Taylor Swift's Shake It Off or even 2013 mega-hit Happy by Pharrell Williams, you've probably wondered why that is and a new study has uncovered the reason behind it.
As the Journal Of Consumer Psychology has found, the answer is simply the power of repetition.
The study compared all number one tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 from 1958 all the way to 2012, with songs that never cracked the top 90 and the results found that the songs that had more repetitive lyrics had a better chance of being ranked higher.
It also found that the more repetitive songs were more likely to debut in the top 40 with a higher success rate of climbing the charts.
