More Snoop Dogg More Snoop Dogg

Have you managed to snap a quick shot of hip hop royalty around Melbourne this week? You might want to check your shots, because a Snoop Dogg doppelgänger has been doing the rounds, duping Victorian music fans in the process.

While the Doggfather himself is currently in Victoria ahead of his appearance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for this year’s AFL Grand Final pre-match entertainment, he’s largely kept his other appearances limited to some pre-game goal-kicking and some one-off surprise shows while in the city.

So, who exactly is the doggelgänger that’s been doing the rounds this week? Well, that would be Eric Finch, a US native who has managed to go viral over the years for his role as Snoop Dogg’s official lookalike.

Over the past few days, Finch has been showing up at some Melbourne landmarks – including Richmond’s iconic Skipping Girl vinegar sign – in a custom-painted lowrider. On Thursday night, Finch stopped by the Corner Hotel to put an end to the mystery behind theis rise of Snoop sightings, revealing himself as the man at the cnetre of it all.

As it turns out, Finch’s presence in the city has been part of a campaign by winemakers 19 Crimes in promotion of their 19 Crimes Cali by Snoop drop. Those who snapped photos were in with a chance to win access to an exclusive Grand Final afterparty featuring Snoop Dogg delivering a live DJ set.

Upon the AFL confirming his performance at this year’s Grand Final, Snoop Dogg said, “It’s an absolute honour to be hitting the stage at the AFL Grand Final — it’s one of the biggest events on the Aussie calendar. Can’t wait to bring the energy and celebrate with the fans. Let’s make it unforgettable.”

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon added, “Snoop Dogg is a pioneer, a performer, and a true entertainer. He’s played to packed stadiums around the world — but we think 100,000 fans at the MCG might just be his most iconic crowd yet.”

One of Australia’s most talented musicians, Tash Sultana, will perform in Snoop Dogg’s band this weekend and is expected to showcase a “show-stopping guitar performance.”

They said of the epic gig, “It’s not every day you get chosen to join Snoop’s band and perform at the AFL Grand Final in front of 100,000 people, with millions more tuning in around the world.”
