Black Sabbath are in their home city of Birmingham to go Back To The Beginning. That’s the name of their final-ever show, happening today (overnight/early morning tomorrow for us Aussies) at Villa Park (the home of Premier League team Aston Villa).
The show marks the first time that the band’s original line-up—singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward—have performed together in 20 years.
Of course, the English metal group’s final show won’t happen without some acknowledgement of their impact on music history. They’ll be joined by a who’s who of metal music, all of whom will pay tribute. And now, we know the set times.
Musicians including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, Lamb Of God, Halestorm, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Tool, and more will honour the heavy metal icons throughout a full day of live music. Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine fame is musical director for the night.

The Back To The Beginning concert will be streamed online two hours after the event starts, so Aussies can tune in from midnight. Tickets to the livestream cost $46.99 and can be purchased here.
All proceeds from the show will go to three charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice – a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa.
Ozzy Osbourne recently revealed that he “can’t walk” due to his health issues, including Parkinson’s disease, and that he’d be “doing little bits and pieces” at the forthcoming concert.
In April, Tool singer Maynard James Keenan addressed Osbourne’s struggles, admitting that he was unsure about the heavy metal icon when Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
“Seeing Ozzy moving around at [the Rock Hall ceremony], the idea of him playing a show at all, if we’re being honest, the conversation about going to do the song was like, ‘We’ll have this conversation,’ but, ahh… I don’t know that this [concert] is gonna happen,” Keenan said.
“Even now, I’m cautious about saying, ‘Yeah! All in, he’s gonna do it.’ Because man, I don’t know what kind of modern miracles we’ll come up with to get him on stage to do the songs, but this is gonna be a challenge for them. So, I’m honoured to be a part of it, but I’m kinda preparing for the worst – but hoping for the best, as they say.”
Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale also hinted at Osbourne’s potential inability to perform at the upcoming show. “Because of Ozzy’s health and everything, we’re going to have to see pretty much on the day whether Ozzy’s [going] to be singing or how much Ozzy’s going to be singing and willing to do… Halestorm is doing a set. We’re also doing a Black Sabbath cover. And I’ve been asked to sing in the supergroup with Tom Morello and everybody there.”
When the show was announced in February, Osbourne said, “It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning… time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
