"We’re very excited to be helping announce the local queens at Mardi Gras, and showing the rest of the world the talent we have Down Under."
The local cast of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under will finally be revealed this week!
It's been announced today the Australian and New Zealand competitors for the much-loved drag reality show will be shared as part of a float at this year's Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday.
Production of the series kicked off in New Zealand in January, with star RuPaul Charles joined by long-time co-host Michelle Visage once again.
"I cannot wait for everyone to see that Down Under queens have some of the biggest charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talents in the world," said Charles at the time. "Thank you to Stan and TVNZ for providing a platform for these outrageous drag artists to share their heart, soul and humour."
Visage has shared a message about this weekend's cast announcement today, see it in the video below.
“Mardi Gras celebrates and captures the imagination of Australians, with its colourful explosion of pride and self-expression," said Stan’s Chief Content Officer Nick Forward. "We look forward to our partnership with Mardi Gras and being part of parade night to launch our local queens and celebrate with everyone.”
"Drag Race is so much more than dips, glamour and gags. Drag Race has been pioneering queer voices and providing a platform for queer stories in the mainstream for over 10 years," added Mardi Gras CEO Albert Kruger. "That sort of visibility goes so far in helping foster understanding and acceptance of LGBTQI+ people all over the world.

The US show has so far included one Australian contestant, former Australian Idol contestant Courtney Act, who has since gone on to win Celebrity Big Brother UK as well as compete in both Eurovision: Australia Decides and Dancing With The Stars.
While judges, stars and special guests are yet to be confirmed, there is speculation that Australian comedians Rhys Nicholson and Joel Creasey may be involved. Stan has confirmed that the show will premiere sometime in 2021. Stay tuned for more.
