Rum Jungle are preparing for a busy remainder of 2025, announcing a mini festival and deluxe edition of their chart-topping debut album.

On Saturday, 13 September, Rum Jungle will host their own mini festival, New For Now, at Bar On The Hill in Newcastle. The one-night-only performance is taking place in the band’s hometown and will feature a stacked line-up of friends and local up-and-comers.

Headlined by Rum Jungle, New For Now will also star Sycco, Fool Nelson, Bean Magazine, Sonic Reducer, and local acts Horse and Chain Daisy.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Monday, 14 July, at 9 am AEST, followed by the general sale on Tuesday, 15 July, at 9 am AEST. You can sign up for pre-sale tickets here and find general sale tickets via the Rum Jungle website.

In February, Rum Jungle released their long-awaited debut album, Recency Bias. The deluxe edition, Recency Bias (New, For Now), was released on Thursday (10 July) and features the additional songs It’s All On Your Mind, Shopping Centres, Traffic Jam, and a bunch of demos.

“We all love this song and always knew it was the right track to properly ‘finish’ Recency Bias as the full 14-track vision,” the band said about It’s All On Your Mind.

“It’s one that on the surface feels incredibly sad, but it’s supposed to be hopeful and contemplative… about wondering where life will end up, but knowing there are roads you need to take just to see where they lead.”

On the writing of Traffic Jam, the band continued. “What’s It Like and Mad Man were written in the same room, but Traffic Jam never made it out of that chaotic loungeroom… until now. It shows a period in our lives that was so pivotal and important to us.”

Rum Jungle released their debut album independently via The Orchard without label support. Lead singer Benny McIntyre explained, “We wanted to get this one done our way. To see how people are reacting so far, knowing we backed ourselves, is absolutely unreal.”

Following its release, Recency Bias debuted atop the ARIA Australian Albums Chart and #9 on the overall ARIA Albums Chart.
