Newcastle outfit Rum Jungle experienced the success of their dreams after their debut album reached #1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart.
The band’s album, Recency Bias, was released on 21 February. It just landed at #1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart and #9 on the ARIA Albums Chart. After ARIA shared the news on social media, the band wrote on Instagram, “WE’RE NUMBA 1! God we love you all, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
They added, “#9 overall next to some of the biggest hitters on earth.”
Indeed, Rum Jungle share chart positions alongside Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, Chappell Roan, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Gracie Abrams, and more.
Notably, Rum Jungle released their debut album independently via The Orchard without label support.
Lead singer Benny McIntyre said, “We wanted to get this one done our way. To see how people are reacting so far, knowing we backed ourselves, is absolutely unreal.”

Recency Bias was recorded at Lakehouse Audio in the Central Coast, NSW, alongside the band’s longtime producer/engineer Simon Dobson. Recorded amongst the band playing regional shows across Australia, McIntyre added, “The energy of juggling touring and recording seven days a week fed into the record for sure.
“We’d record, listen to rough mixes in the tour bus, test out ideas in soundcheck, and come straight back to the studio with fresh ears and fresh ideas. We were really amazingly lost in it for around three months.”
The band’s ARIA achievements come as their tour of Australia and New Zealand is almost completely sold out, with final tickets remaining in Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart. With four shows left on the itinerary, Rum Jungle already sold out eight dates in Auckland, Wellington, Raglan, Christchurch, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth.
Later this month, Rum Jungle will take Recency Bias to the US. They’ve already sold out the dates in New York, Toronto, and Chicago.
