Perth singer Reuben De Melo has won the thirteenth season of The Voice Australia.
The series’ grand finale aired on Channel 7 last night (27 October), with the 32-year-old WA singer and FIFO worker winning over the public vote after a week-long voting period that closed during the show last night. De Melo, a soulful singer who could sing songs from various genres, was on LeAnn Rimes’ team.
Before host Sonia Kruger revealed his win, De Melo delivered a rendition of The Animals’ House Of The Rising Sun and performed with Rimes, with the pair singing a moving version of Coldplay’s Fix You. He beat 16-year-old Annie Jones on Adam Lambert’s team, SKŸE from Team Guy Sebastian, and Jaedyn Randell from Kate Miller-Heidke’s team.
De Melo has taken home $100,000 and a recording package with Studios 301 in Alexandria. This year, winners haven’t received a recording contract with Universal Music, with The Voice opting for development rather than a major label for its winner this year.
In response to his win, De Melo said, “I never thought I’d get this far; this is crazy.”
LeAnn Rimes said, “I’m so proud. You deserve every bit of this moment, and I’m so honoured that I could be on this journey with you. You are incredible.”

Reuben De Melo was featured in early promos for the new season of The Voice (per TV Tonight) with his Blind Audition of I See Fire by Ed Sheeran. He received chair turns from all four coaches, but LeAnn Rimes “blocked” all three of her fellow judges.
She said about the decision, “I knew as soon as he opened his mouth, and I heard him sing. There was just so much feeling there. There was no way I was letting any of the other coaches get to him before I did.”

Earlier this year, LeAnn Rimes said of joining The Voice Australia, “I am incredibly honoured and excited to embrace the opportunity of coaching on The Voice. This special chance to mentor and discover new voices throughout Australia is a reflection of the love and support I’ve received from my Australian fans throughout my career. I look forward to returning the love, sharing my experiences, and hearing fresh, promising talent.”
